Why aren't my citations showing in Ahrefs or Google?

It's completely normal for citations to take longer to appear in Ahrefs, SEMrush or Google than standard backlinks, simply because of how deep they sit within a website's structure.

Why citations take longer to show

Link analysis tools, including Ahrefs, SEMrush and Google's own Search Console, can take a while to detect and report new backlinks. Citations tend to take a little longer still, as they're often placed deeper within a site's hierarchy. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month for Google or other analysis software to pick them up and index them.

How to check if a citation has been indexed

The most reliable way to manually check whether a specific citation has been indexed is to use a site: Google search operator on the citation URL itself:

  • Search site:yourcitationurl.com in Google
  • If the page appears in the results, it's been indexed

Depending on how long ago you placed your order, this delay is expected and not a cause for concern. However, if all of your citations are failing to index, let us know and we'll be happy to investigate for you.
