How does VAT work for my account?
VAT is applied to your account automatically unless you add a valid VAT number, and your billing address needs to match the country your payments actually come from.
Adding your VAT number
If you have a VAT number, you can add it to your account so that you're not charged VAT. To do this:
- Go to your dashboard
- Click My Profile
- Select Billing Information
- Enter your VAT number in the field provided
Please note that adding a VAT number doesn't remove VAT in every case. Depending on your country, VAT may still apply even if you've added a valid VAT number. For example, UK-based customers are always charged UK VAT. If you're not sure whether VAT applies to you, get in touch with our support team.
Our VAT number and EU validators
As we're a non-EU company, traditional EU VAT validators won't be able to validate our VAT number. Our number is issued under the VATMOSS process, as we trade with businesses and individuals within the EU, and it can be validated directly by tax offices. This is the same situation faced by other non-EU companies trading with the EU.
Why your billing address and payment country matter
Your billing address needs to match the country your payments are actually coming from. This is because VAT is calculated based on your location, and we need to keep accurate records to comply with tax rules. If there's a mismatch between your billing address and your payment country, we'll need to update your account details to reflect the correct country, and VAT may be applied accordingly going forward.
To avoid being charged VAT, your billing information should be based outside the UK or EU, and your payment country should match that same location.
If you ever notice a discrepancy between your billing address and payment country, or need to update your details, just get in touch and we'll help get this sorted.
