I'm having trouble paying with PayPal

If you're having trouble paying with PayPal, this is usually down to a common checkout issue on PayPal's end rather than a problem with our account. Only a small percentage of users experience this, and it's generally easy to resolve.

What you might see

You may come across error messages such as:

  • "Error: Unable To Process This Transaction"
  • "Unable To Complete Payment"
  • "Unable To Proceed, Try Again Later"

The exact wording can vary, but these all point to the same type of issue. It's a common misconception that these messages mean there's a problem with our (the seller's) account — this is usually not the case, unless the message specifically mentions "the merchant".

Common causes and how to fix them

  • Your credit card is linked to an existing PayPal account: if this is the case, log into that PayPal account to make the payment rather than using guest checkout.
  • Guest checkout limits: PayPal places limits on how many times, and for what total value, a credit card can be used via guest checkout. If you've hit this limit, open a PayPal account and verify your card details there.
  • Billing details don't match: check that the billing information on your PayPal account matches the billing information currently on your fatjoe account (under My Profile > Billing information). If they're different, update them so they match and try again.
  • Caching issues: this is a fairly common cause. Try clearing the cookies on your computer, and if that doesn't help, restart your computer and try again.

These steps should resolve most PayPal payment issues. If you're still having trouble and it isn't related to any of the above, please get in touch so we can help.
