Is link building against Google's guidelines?
Link building can fall foul of Google's guidelines if it's done carelessly, but when it's handled correctly, it's designed to look as natural as possible so it doesn't raise any flags. Google generally takes a dim view of manual link building, and the key issue for them is being able to tell whether a link was built manually or acquired naturally. This is exactly where our approach comes in.
How we keep placements looking natural
We take several steps to make sure our placements look just like a genuinely helpful post written by the blogger themselves, rather than a solicited link:
- We avoid labels such as "guest post", "sponsored" or "paid".
- We avoid using author boxes.
- We link out to multiple non-competing sources so the post doesn't appear biased.
- We write all content in a ghost-blogging style to mimic the blogger's own voice.
What's within your control
On your end, you have control over several of the factors Google uses to determine whether links are unnatural. Websites usually only get penalised if they trip an algorithmic action in the first place, so being mindful of these factors matters.
We've written a full guide on the common mistakes to avoid, which you can read here: Link Building Footprints.
